How to see which apps a Shopify store uses

Find out which Shopify apps a store runs from its public storefront: what to look for in the source, the patterns of common apps, and how to check thousands of stores at once.

Why it matters

If you build or sell Shopify apps, a store's app stack is the best buying signal you have. A store without a reviews app may need one; a store on a competitor may be ready to switch; a store running five marketing apps has budget.

Read the storefront source

Most apps load a script or stylesheet from their own domain, or add a recognisable block to the theme. Open the store, view the page source and search for app domains. A few examples:

  • Reviews: judge.me, loox.io, yotpo.com, okendo.io, stamped.io
  • Email and SMS: klaviyo.com, omnisend.com, privy.com
  • Consent banners: consentmo, pandectes, cookiebot
  • Trust badges: widgets.trustedshops.com (very common in Germany)
  • Analytics: googletagmanager.com, clarity.ms, hotjar.com

Limits

  • Back-office apps (inventory, accounting, fulfilment) leave no trace on the storefront.
  • Some apps only load on product or cart pages, so check more than the homepage.
  • Apps get uninstalled; a check is only true on the day you made it.

Check thousands of stores

Doing this by hand works for a few stores. Truffle fingerprints around 70 common apps on every German Shopify store it indexes, so you can search for stores that run, or lack, a given app, and see usage across the market.

See it in the data

Browse the directory to see how many German stores use each app, which other apps they combine it with and which themes they run.

Explore the data

Ask your agent

“Find German Shopify stores that fit my product, research the best 20 and give me a lead table.”

With Truffle in Claude Code, your agent filters this list, researches every store live and gives you the email, phone, contact form and socials for each one.
